On July 24, 2018, the New York State Assembly passed a bill banning the use of BPA (CAS 80-05-7) substitutes in children's products. Prohibited substitutes include bisphenol S (BPS, CAS 80-09-1), bisphenol F (BPF, CAS 620-92-8), bisphenol AP (BPAP, CAS 1571-75-1), bisphenol AF (BPAF, CAS 1478-61-1), bisphenol B (BPB, CAS 77-40-7) and bisphenol Z (BPZ, CAS 843-55-0).

Bisphenol A is a well-known estrogenic active substance, which has been criticized for its wide use in baby bottles, plastic water cups and so on, so now plastic bottles have begun to use some of the bisphenol A substitutes. Studies have shown that these six bisphenol A substituted substances also have estrogenic effects. The bill will help protect children from these chemicals.

The bill is scheduled to take effect in December 31, 2019.
