In June 2017, the European Commission for Standardization (CEN) released the revised version of Toy Safety Standard EN 71 Part 3: Transfer of Specific Elements EN 71-3: 2013 + A3: 2018.
The revised version is mainly related to the lead limit. The main contents are as follows:
Class I toy materials: the limit of soluble lead is changed from 13.5 mg/kg to 2 mg/kg
Class II toy materials: the limit of soluble lead is changed from 3.4 mg/kg to 0.5 mg/kg
Class III toy materials: the limit of soluble lead is changed from 160 mg/kg to 23 mg/kg
EN 71-3: 2013 + A3: 2018 will be given the status of national standards, and national standards that conflict with them will be replaced by December 2018 at the latest. The edition, accepted by the European Commission (EC) and published in the European Union Official Gazette (OJEU), is expected to be listed as the harmonized standard of the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC.
